Visual C++ 7 sucks
Message 1 in thread
Visual C++ 7 compiler is broken and unusable. It's not even as good as 6.
I'm getting link errors when instantiating simple templates like QValueList.
I think they broke it on purpose to move people away from C++ to the new
.net stuff.
Does anyone have any suggestions/comments?

That is EXACTLY why you shouldn't be using Microcrap
products!!! The hell with Bill and his products. I
bought a computer that came with free upgrade voucher
for WinXP. But I didn't get it!!! Linux rulz! Yes
it is command line and stuff....but the feeling of not
using Bill's stuff makes it worth it.

Hey, could we keep the anti-MS stuff off this mailing list.
I doubt Trolltech wants to have it's MS customers getting negative
vibes from it's non-MS customers. That's the whole point of their
cross-platform toolkit. We should all live together in harmony
-- and mutual respect.
Anyway... My main concern is to keep this a Qt list.
Thanks,
-Tim Howland

The real issue is that Trolltech has reported that VS7 is incompatable with
some aspects of Qt. As a dual platform implementor, that is important info.
As for me, I write for the platforms my customers ask for and leave the
religious wars to others.

I reported the problems to the MS people we have here onsite. They said
that they had to ship the product and, undoubtadly, the issues would be
addressed quickly in SP1.
Probably as quickly as they're planning to put Netscape plugins back into
IE, no doubt.
I like Microsoft; don't get me wrong. But, they've done some very predatory
things, documented in writing.

I quite agree with not letting this discuss develop into a religious war,
but the fact remains that there several problem issues which Microsoft need
to address. I have had problem with the linker and RTTI. My solution was to
replace the MS compiler and linker with Intel C++ V5.0.x compiler and
linker. For those who have MSVC++ V7, with its broken compiler and linker,
work around this problem by dropping the Intel compiler and linker into the
MSVC++ V7 IDE.

After dropping $500 on Intel's compiler, of course...
