8-bit Colour problems on Solaris - disappearing toolbar buttons w hen disabled

Hi,
We are having problems with our 8-bit application running out of colours on
Solaris (not on NT). This shows itself in disabled (greyed-out) toolbar
buttons disappearing altogether rather than appearing in dark grey. When the
icon is enabled it appears fine in all the colours of the original xpm. On a
24-bit display the icons also display ok, even greyed out, but we need it to
work for 8-bit. The icons for the toolbar buttons are .xpm files set in gimp
to 15 Colour Indexed Colour and only use 10 colours between them. The
application uses a number of QPixmaps and QImages drawn in up to 100
different colours. The application also uses XView, which no doubt also
grabs colours.
Does anyone know how we could save on colours or what we could try to fix
this?

I suspect I have seen a similar thing - tooltips appearing with
black text on a black background (unreadable!).

Hi All,
Just close other X applications, even if they are running on the other
desktop.
Quite often it helps.
