Transparency weirdness

To accompany my previous message, I have another interrogation.
Context: I have a transparent label called HQLabel.
On one machine (using eXceed 7.0 for an X server) my labels are fine and
transparent.
On the other (using XFree 3.3.3) they are not.
And I have the same color depth and resolution (640x480x16) on both
screens...
And there is no file/release problem to my knowledge (same version, etc,
blah blah).
Anyone has a clue however small it could be?
I need some inspiration here...
