Designer enforcing minimum size of lineedit widgets?

You can see from a screen shot of my Outlook clone:

That my lineedit widgets are somewhat taller than they need to be. QTDesigner enforces a minimum
size of those widgets depending on the font size of the form.
I'd really like to make these widgets smaller. Is QTDesigner doing this for any good reason?
Something to do with unicode or internationalization?
Is the minimum size built into the lineedit widgets? Can I adjust the geometry programmatically
outside of Designer?
My Outlook clone is nearing early release completion status. You can download the current source
from the CVS at http://sourceforge.net/projects/advance.
