rpm maintains a database of stuff which *it* has installed. When it complains about missing dependencies, or tells you about some installed package, it is looking in the database, not at the actual component files. Either remove the installed 2.2.0 package (rpm -e) and just follow the instructions in INSTALL to build and install the new stuff without rpm. Or make an rpm out of the new sources. Is there a .spec file to do this? Or find a pre-built rpm for 2.3.1 (or better still, for 3.0.x) -- [ signature omitted ]
