[Qt4.2.1] Only root can print
Message 1 in thread
I'm using OpenSuse 10.2 with Qt4.2.1 original from OpenSuse's CDs.
Only root can print from my application or from Qt's demo applications. So, i
don't think it's a problem from my application.
As a normal user, the printer only "blinks" when i send something to print (
it's a HP1100 on a Win98 machine instaled on Cups as a samba printer ).
If i print to a file and use konqueror to print this output, it's ok, even as
a normal user.
I used Qt4.1.xxx with OpenSuse 10.1 before and this problem didn't happen
before.
Thanks for all help :)

Have you tried the original Qt from Trolltech's website (compiled by
yourself)? I'm asking this because this might actually be a bug in the
SuSE Qt package and not in Qt itself.

Well, I *can* print with Qt 4.2.1 as normal user. Just tried the
qt-x11-commercial-4.2.1/demos/textedit example.
That's on an old SuSE 8.2 though...
We have a HP Laserjet attached via network, the driver on my machine is
CUPS (I strongly guess the CUPS which came with SuSE 8.2).
I suggest you too try to download the sources and compile them yourself.
Maybe the Kubuntu people did the same mistake as the SuSE people
(unlikely, but if you want to make sure, you have to test it yourself).
Cheers, Oliver

I opened a bug for openSUSE 10.2:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=236644
So far it seems that on openSUSE 10.2
- printing via Network (CUPS) is only possible as root
- printing to a printer on parport works (just tested on i586)
Correct?

Thanks for all and excuse-me for taking so long to send a message. I was out
of office some days and i'm having some problems to access smtp and pop
servers from Yahoo. I hate webmails, so i'll only see my messages and others
when these problem will be solved.
It's not exactly he same problem that you report at this bug. I can chose a
printer at printing dialog. But when i chose a printer and not "print to
file", the printer blinks and nothing more. No page.
I saw an "/undefined in 0,059999" error at cups's error log for all missing
prints. When i updated cups to 1.2.7-3.3, this problem is solved and now, i
can print as a normal user again.
Thanks
Josinei
