VS Express 2005 patch for Vista

Message 1 in thread

According to:
http://www.trolltech.com/developer/notes/compilers/vcpp
I need to download a hotfix from Microsoft to get Visual Studio 2005 SP1
to work with Qt on Vista.

According to:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930198
I have to email Microsoft to beg for the patch for the bug in their
compiler, and they can charge me £67 for the email. Surely that can't be
right!?! Why can't I just download it?

Can anyone else confirm the above? Is there some other way I can
(legally) get the patch.

best regards

I can confirm that for Germany, you have to call Microsoft support and
give your contact information before they send you an e-mail containing
a link to the download.

Well, that is Microsoft policy. They are free to choose the conditions
under which they deploy patches. Not that I am happy with this procedure ...

Rainer,

Did they charge you a fee to get the patch?

AFAIK, no. A colleague made the phone call and got the patch. He
complained about the procedure, but did not mention any fee.
