tabifying more than 2 docks together?

QMainWindow::tabifyDockWidget() only tabifies two docks. If I try to 
tabify a third dock into the group it splits the first one out again. Is 
there a way to set up three tabbed docks by default?

I know that once the user has tabified multiple docks together manually, 
the state can be saved/restored with the windowState attribute.
