What wrong with separate registry branch for every installation, like 
currently used for plugins: 
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Trolltech\OrganizationDefaults\Qt Plugin 
Cache 4.3.debug"?
Far better IMO than toolkit nailed to build directory.
