What's the exact error?

Probably a compiler bug. I do recall some compiler bug in 64-bit Red Hat 4 or 
5 - can't remember exactly. Upgrade the compiler if a more recent package is 
available.

By the way, which exact version of CentOS is this, and what is m/c?

If newer gcc and binutils packages are not available, please try building Qt 
in debug mode. Does the problem go away?
