Whither Alien?

Can someone tell me the status of Alien? I was looking forward to it
with great interest because I had some graphical things I wanted to try
out that were previously not possible, but that Alien was supposed to fix.
There were a few blog entries last August but that was it. Is it all
running smoothly in 4.4? Does it Just Work, and I should expect
fantastic, faster, flicker-free graphical goodness without any doing on
my part? Or...?

Never mind, I had remembered the old, original blog post, and didn't
look at the new one carefully enough. I see it was integrated into
mainline.
