doubts regarding Qt 4.4

is it possible to playback .avi files using previous versions of Qt say (Qt 4.3) which has no phonon API for  multimedia framework.
or it is only possible with Qt 4.4

please explain in detail.

Yes, it is. The Xine backend for Phonon is not part of the Qt source tree, 
though. You'll find it in the KDE sources (kdebase/runtime/phonon). Any 
KDE 4 installation will have it and Qt's Phonon module will load it 
automatically.

A note of caution: the Xine backend is X11 only and is GPL'ed.
