Language support and milestones

Message 1 in thread

Hello,

Three questions:

1) What class in jambi corresponds to the language translation macro
tr() in C++ Qt.
2) When is the first official release of jambi planned?
3) We have ordinary developer licenses for the Qt C++ framework. Must we
pay
extra for the jambi stuff? If so, how much?

Best regards,
Helge Fredriksen

Hi, Helge.

At the moment there is only a dummy implementation of the method tr() in
com.trolltech.qt.core.QObject. This will currently return you the string
you pass in, because i18n support has not been implemented in Qt Jambi yet.

I am sorry, but we do not have the answers for these questions at the
moment. Both pricing strategies and product plans for Qt Jambi are still
very much undetermined. When they are finalized, the information should
appear on the following page:

We are just starting off developing a new product which we would like to
be based on the Qt platform in Java. In connection to this, your answer
does not sound very satisfactory. Especially when i read the statement
in your FAQ:

"We have not made a final decision on whether to launch Qt Jambi as a
product yet. This decision will depend on ongoing market research and
user feedback. More detailed timelines will be part of a later product
announcement."

Which commitment do you have towards Jambi? We need to have some sort of
hint towards how Qt policies towards
jambi will be in the future to be able to go forward with our technology
choice.

Best regards,
Helge Fredriksen

Helge,

We generally recommend against using technology previews for production
software projects.

As stated in the FAQ we have not made a final decision on whether to
launch Qt Jambi as a product. The feedback so far has been very
encouraging but we cannot guarantee it at this time.

Having said that I'd also like to state that we have committed significant
resources to Qt Jambi development already and will keep doing so while
releasing successive technology previews. If we do decide to release Qt
Jambi as a commercial product, it will be a first class, fully supported
member of the Trolltech product familiy.

Kind regards,
Eivind Throndsen
