Having trouble with unsubscribe (FAQ)?

Message 1 in thread

For all people having problems with unsubscribing from
qt4-preview-feedback@xxxxxxxxxxxxx: Indeed there are some pitfalls to avoid.

Basics
------

1. First off notice the signature appended by the mailing list server:
It clearly sais to send all unsubscribe requests to:

     qt4-preview-feedback-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
                          ^^^^^^^

Do *not* send a message to qt4-preview-feedback@xxxxxxxxxxxxx (this
list) with the useless word 'unsubscribe' in the header or body. You
may ask for help here though in case you get into trouble. But
putting 'unsubscribe' in the header suggests that you have failed to
   read

     http://lists.trolltech.com/qt4-preview-feedback/

in the first place. Be prepared for hot flaming :)

2. Wait for the confirmation email which should arrive within minutes.
Simply reply to this email (with a decent email client) as to
   confirm your wish to unsubscribe.

3. You're done!

Those are the basic rules. Authoritative information on how to
unsubscribe can be found:

- in every signature appended to posts sent to
    qt4-preview-feedback@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
- http://lists.trolltech.com/qt4-preview-feedback/

Pitfalls
--------

Even though the above might appear bullet-proof there are some pitfalls
to avoid:

1. Send all messages with the *same* sender address (From:) with which
you are subscribed to this list to:

     qt4-preview-feedback-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Some people have reported that they have succeeded with the words
     'unsubscibe [email@xxxxxxxxxxx]'
   instead of simply
     'unsubscribe'
but this is probably an "undocumented feature". The way it is
always supposed to work is with 'unsubscribe'. Point.

2. Send your emails *in plain text*! Don't send multipart-messages
(plain text and HTML) or (even worse) HTML only! This seems to
   confuse the list server.

Using plain text is a good thing for lists anyway. Note that messages
in HTML sent to qt4-preview-feedback@xxxxxxxxxxxxx can't be archived
and are hence "lost" for others when searching the archive:

     http://lists.trolltech.com/qt4-preview-feedback/

3. Check your *Junk* folder when awaiting the confirmation email.

4. In the rare case when the mailing list server is not working properly
(yes, this sometimes can happen, but it is once in a year or so, so
don't blame the mailing list server first ;) try again a week later.

If you are sure that you have taken care of 1.-3. you might want
to send an email to this list with something like "Troubles with
   unsubscribing" in the subject.

The 2nd point seems to be crucial, see this conversation I've just had:

Good luck (and note: the best thing is to stay subscribed anyway ;)
  Cheers, Oliver
