Naming Conventions of qt-dlls under windows

Message 1 in thread

Hello,

the dlls and libs names like qtgui4.dll. I think due to the
release cycles of Qt the customers are not able to change f.e.
from 4.3 to 4.4 easily but only from 4.3.x to 4.3.(x+1) in
an delivered Software. Only the last (.x) versions are binary
compatible.

Thus a naming like qtgui44.dll / qtgui43.dll did make more
sense in the most projects. I know - it will be a great change,
and i didn't know the influence on other customers.

I made it with a few changes in pro/pri-Files and qmake itself
but it isn't nice to make the changes for each release. I think
an option of the troll's itself would be better.

Sincerly

Gerald

We aim at that being possible. The 4.(x+1) version is binary compatible
with 4.x and previous versions. It should also be behaviour compatible
and have more bugs fixed.

I know customers cannot simply swap out one version for another because
things break, for a wide variety of reasons. But we hope this change
doesn't take much of your time to do. Besides, any problems in doing that
should be reported since they may be regressions in our code.
