GREENPHONE and SDK license
Message 1 in thread
Hey pals,
So it is september now, we are all anticipating the launch of the
GREENPHONE and at least one reason, while likely not to be the main
reason, is to attract OpenSource developers. While I don't do
OpenSource but Free Software I feel attracted regardles.
My main question is the licenses used by the SDK. I know the kernel
will be GPL, the C library (I assume glibc, but would be glad to see
uclibc deployed) LGPL but which license will be the Qtopia Core and
Qtopia bits? As you plan to attract OpenSource developers I assume
you will use a GPL compatible license.
E.g. all CS students of the FU-Berlin could go to the technical
department get a loan research device, including WiFi, GPS, UMTS...,
download the platform builder from the Microsoft Academic Program and
program firmware and applications for that device. I have refused to
work on proprietary platforms so far so please give me and all
students around the world a possibility to easily access a phone
running Free Software. Give Universities an option not to use
proprietary platforms for their work.
So Trolltech please give us an acceptable option and I'm looking
forward to see the source.
a happy student at the FU Berlin
