Use of ptxdist for root filesystem builds and Qtopia

Message 1 in thread

I was curious if anyone had taken a look at ptxdist
http://www.pengutronix.de/software/ptxdist/index_en.html for building
a root filesystem. I have been impressed with thbe use of this build
system for creating a cross compiler toolchaiin. I also note that
their buildsystem includes builtin support for certain versions of
Qtopia Core OpenSource.

I have been using Scratchbox extensively in the past but have been
less than satisfied with that environment when trying to work with
things like qvfb and qemu for the build. The chroot for root
filesystem generation is a challenge to get right.

Hehe,

now you have tried scratchbox and ptxdist it is time to use
OpenEmbedded. OpenEmbedded is already used to create build images for
consumer products like the dreambox or to create community
distributions including Familiar and OpenZaurus.

just my two cents.

    kind regards
      z.

If you can get it to actually build. OE has no stable releases, and it
does not (easily) allow one to specify where the toolchain gets put, so
making just a toolchain for distribution is not a simple task.

Before I started using Scratchbox I had researched OpenEmbedded. But
I found it to be really unstable and a pain to build. It was too
complex for my needs.

Have looked at it, although not used it all that much.

agreed. I have used scratchbox cross toolchain out of the chroot
environment.
