Good-Cheap QTopia based PDA
Message 1 in thread
Im looking for a good but cheap qtopia based PDA... I looked on the tt
website and saw the list of advertised devices :-) and the Royal PDA
will probably meet the needs. However, I can figure out he model
number.
I don't need phone, or wifi, just a pda where I can write a qtopia core
based app for it.
Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated

Hello,
I don't know your requirement, budget etc but here is a list of
possible things:
1.) Get a imported Zaurus and make Qtopia Core run on it (quite
expensive)
2.) Get a cheaper Windows Mobile based device and run Linux on it.
E.g. check handhelds.org for devices capable of running Linux to some
degree
3.) Like 2.) but with commercial support and get a Windows Mobile
based devices from SDGSystems.com
z.

So if I read you right... There is no PDA on the market today that a
consumer could buy that is running Qtopia out of the box. The SDG
Systems boxes are very expensive, the Zaurus's are no longer sold....
Its too bad.. Looks like Ill be pushing my customer to a Windows
CE/Mobile device, or Palm...
Thanks for the info

Actually, there is. The Archos 604 runs Qtopia. Although Archos allows
applications to be installed, the Pma430 was not a very open system as in
friendly to flashing a different kernel/system.

But even the Archos is 3 bills or so... I was hoping to find a $200
pda...
My quest is still on.

A semi-confirmed rumor has it that Qtopia Core 4.4 will have a WinMobile/WinCE port. Granted 4.4 won't be in existance until sometime next year.
